The pair refined their harmonies, sang in school choirs and never gave up in spite of their harsh career beginnings. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, better known as Simon & Garfunkel, rose to prominence in the folk-rock counterculture of the late 1960s, selling millions of albums and playing to filled venues all over the world. In 1964, the duo released their debut album ‘Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M’ to commercial failure. However, in 1965, music producer Tom Wilson electrified ‘The Sound of ‘Silence, a track from the record, the newly modified version of the song shot to number one on the Billboard charts, and the rest is folk history…
Simon & Garfunkel are the winners of seven Grammy Awards. In 1990, they earned their place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. With over 100 million records sold worldwide, they are amongst the best-selling musicians of all time. Rolling Stone placed them third on its list of greatest duos and 40th on its list of greatest artists of all time.
Influenced by icons such as Bob Dylan and The Everly Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel became pioneers of the 60s folk movement, and captured the hearts of millions with their signature harmonies and poetic lyrics that reflected a time of political and cultural turbulence. Their final album, ‘Bridge over Troubled Water’, has sold over 25 million copies worldwide. Although their time together was short, their legacy will undoubtedly live on forever.
