Meet the Cast of Sister Act: A Divine Musical Comedy

The West End has been blessed with a ‘heaven-sent’ (Telegraph) revival of the nunbelievably hilarious and joyful comedy, [*Sister Act*](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/musical/sister-act-tickets)*!* The musical, adapted from the cult 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg, made its world premiere more than 15 years ago, and is currently playing at London’s [Dominion Theatre](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/venue/dominion-theatre-london). Praise be!
The stage production is full of music, mishaps and nuns on the run, as club singer, Deloris Van Cartier, hides in a convent after witnessing her boyfriend, Curtis Jackson, commit murder.

## Who will be in the Sister Act: A Divine Musical Comedy London Cast from 10 June 2024
Following **Beverly Knight**’s final performance as Deloris Van Cartier on 8 June, X Factor winner **Alexandra Burke** will be stepping into the purple knee high boots and taking over the lead role from 10 June until the show's final West End performance on 31 August. She will be joined by fellow reality show winner **Lee Mead** (*Any Dream Will Do, We Will Rock You*), who will be taking over the role of Eddie Souther from **Clive Rowe** from 8 June - 31 August.
## Who will be in the Sister Act: A Divine Musical Comedy London Cast from 5 August 2024
Three cast members will be switching roles from 5 August. **Lesley Joseph**, who previously played Sister Mary Lazurus, will take over the role of Mother Superior from 5 August. With **Lori Haley Fox**, who previously played Sister Mary Martin of Tours, taking over the role of Sister Mary Lazurus. **Emma Odell** will be replacing Lori Haley Fox as Sister Mary Martin of Tours.
## Who Were in the original Sister Act: A Divine Musical Comedy West End Cast
Sister Act had its UK premiere at the [London Palladium](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/venue/london-palladium-london) on June 2, 2009. Following a year-long search, 24-year-old actress **Patina Miller** was cast as Deloris, alongside **Sheila Hancock** as Mother Superior, **Ian Lavender** as Monsignor Howard, **Chris Jarman** as Curtis, **Ako Mitchell** as Eddie, **Katie Rowley Jones** as Sister Mary Robert, **Claire Greenway** as Sister Mary Patrick and **Julia Sutton** (later replaced by **Jacqueline Clarke**) as Sister Mary Lazarus.
## Who Has Previously Played Deloris Van Cartier and Mother Superior?
**Whoopi Goldberg** originated the role of Deloris Van Cartier in the 1992 film. Almost 30 years later, she returned to Sister Act this time playing Mother Superior in the West End! *Emmerdale* star **Sally Dexter**, acting royalty **Dame Sheila Hancock** and comedy legend **Jennifer Saunders** have all also taken on the role of the head of the convent in the UK, whereas across the pond Broadway stars **Carolee Carmello**, **Lynne Wintersteller** and **Victoria Clark** have all played the iconic role.
2024 marks the second time both **Beverly Knight** and **Alexandra Burke** have taken on the role of Deloris Van Cartier, with Burke performing the role in 2016 and Knight first wearing the habit in 2022. Other notable UK Van Cartier’s include **Cynthia Erivo**. Over on Broadway **Raven-Symoné** and original London lead, **Patina Miller** sparkled as Van Cartier.
