The **London County Hall **is a striking riverside venue known for its grand architecture and unique theatre setting. Originally the headquarters of London’s local government, it now hosts immersive stage productions in a dramatic and historic chamber overlooking the Thames. Best known for its gripping in-the-round staging of Witness for the Prosecution, the venue offers a rare blend of political heritage and live theatre.
Set on the South Bank beside the London Eye, London County Hall provides a one-of-a-kind cultural experience in one of the city’s most iconic buildings.
Constructed between 1911 and 1933, London County Hall was designed by Ralph Knott and served as the headquarters of the London County Council and later the Greater London Council. The imposing Edwardian Baroque building symbolised the power and reach of local government and housed the city’s key administrative offices.
After the abolition of the GLC in 1986, parts of the building were repurposed for tourism, events, and hospitality. In 2017, the former Council Chamber was transformed into a performance space specifically designed for Agatha Christie’s Witness for the Prosecution, making clever use of its courtroom-style architecture to heighten the theatrical effect.
