Conor McPherson is returning to The Old Vic with the World Premiere of his new play, The Brightening Air. Starring Chris O'Dowd (The IT Crowd, Bridesmaids), the play is set in Ireland in the 1980s and explores the themes of fate, family, and unseen forces. Following the success of the multi-award-winning Girl from the North Country in 2017, audiences can expect McPherson’s return to The Old Vic to delve into the complex dynamics of family relationships. How much of living is really just forgetting?
The show tells the story about a brother and sister, Stephen and Billie. For many, the family home is more than just a building; it can be a destination of pilgrimage, an inheritance. However, for the siblings, the family home is all they have. While they’re mucking along in their decaying farmhouse, they seem to be doing just fine. Until things take an unexpected turn with the arrival of an ex-clergyman uncle with an unscrupulous plan, a sister-in-law seeking a miracle, and a prodigal brother hell-bent on trouble. Filled with humor, heart-wrenching scenes, and a breathtaking storyline, it will have audiences in awe of Conor McPherson’s power to bring magic to life on stage.
Main cast

First opening around 200 years ago, The Old Vic has taken on many identities over the years. The theatre begun as a opera house which later went on t become the home of amazing acting, dance and musical performances. Lots of great actors like Judi Dench, Michael Gambon and Maggie Smith first made their names here, and many others, Ralph Richardson, Laurence Olivier have appeared here.
The Stalls are perfect for up close viewing of the show, you’re right near all the action and you will have such a good viewing experience in these seats, specifically rows G to M this is the perfect balance and is neither too up close or too far away.
The Dress Circle offers the ultimate view, especially the first few rows as this allows you to get a real intimate feel with the show and you can have a fully engaging experience sat in the Dress Circle.
Finally, the Lilian Baylis Circle, rows C-E provides the best viewing points for this section, the back of this section offers lower prices and good view of the stage.
